COWES CLASSIC WEEKEND

The Cowes Classic weekend incorporating 500 metre swim and the 4km run will be held on Sunday 24h February at 2pm.
The Island Swim Classic (1.2km swim) will be held on the 23rd February at 1pm.
The Phillip Island Swim Classic is a 1.2km current-assisted swim along the picturesque bay beach along the Cowes foreshore. This is one of the few beaches in Victoria that faces north and is not affected by strong off-ocean winds. All age categories are catered for in the swim.
The Cowes Classic is a 500 metre current – assisted swim around the Cowes Pier followed by a 4km run through the streets of Cowes. The event can be completed by individuals or as a team (one swimmer and one runner) which has proven very popular with families. Many people are good runners but do not feel confident competing in a swim leg, or vice versa, so it’s a great opportunity to team up with a friend and take part.

The San Remo Channel Challenge

The San Remo Channel Challenge is a swim run event held on Saturday 9th February 2008 at 2.45pm.
The swim is a distance of 500 meters starting across the Channel at the Fishing Village of San Remo on the main land of South Gippsland and in the Shire of Bass Coast.
Due to the strong tide flow through the Channel the swim can only take place on the slack water of the appropriate high tide, the swim finish comes ashore at Newhaven Phillip Island on north side of the Channel.
Slack water of the high tide lasts approximately fifteen minutes in which time 500 plus competitors must complete the swim.
The Run starts in the transition area at Newhaven on Phillip Island after the competitors change into their running shoes on completing the swim leg. The 2.5 kilometre run back up over the picturesque Phillip Island Bridge to the township of San Remo spreads the runners out, and makes a spectacular sprint to the finish line in the main street with large crowds urging the runners on.
